Water and Ice Quality
Because scale drives so many Scotsman problems on Front Range water, start there. Run the manufacturer's descale cycle and replace the inline water filter if it is old, then give the machine a full cycle to recover. Confirm the water supply valve is fully open and the line is not kinked, since low flow makes thin, cloudy cubes. Check that the unit sits level, because Scotsman machines need to be level to fill and harvest correctly. Clean the air intake and the area around the condenser so the machine can shed heat.
Production Checks
If there is no ice at all, verify the bin is not simply full, which trips the shutoff and pauses production. Look at the status lights and note the pattern. Make sure the machine has clearance for airflow, especially if it is built into cabinetry where heat can build up. Give a machine that was just cleaned or moved a couple of hours to reach normal output. If water reaches the unit, the supply is good, and it is descaled but still will not make ice, the inlet valve, evaporator, or sensor needs a technician.
| Symptom | Try First | If It Continues |
|---|---|---|
| No ice at all | Check bin full, supply valve | Inlet valve or evaporator service |
| Thin or cloudy cubes | Descale, replace filter | Water system or sensor service |
| Soft or slow ice | Check level and water flow | Thermistor or control diagnosis |
| Machine runs warm | Clear condenser airflow | Condenser fan service |
| Water on the floor | Check drain line, level | Drain or seal service |
Where to Stop
Do not open the sealed refrigeration system and do not attempt to recharge refrigerant, which requires confirmation of applicable qualification requirements. Descaling, filter changes, leveling, and clearing airflow are the safe DIY steps. Sealed-system, valve, and sensor work is for a technician.
