The Downdraft System
The downdraft blower is what makes a Jenn-Air cooktop a Jenn-Air, and it is the part most likely to disappoint. Weak extraction is rarely the motor itself. Start at the far end of the run, at the exterior wall or roof cap, where lint, nests, and a damper that no longer swings free will choke everything upstream of it. Then pull the grease filter and wash it, because a loaded filter halves the airflow on its own. Only when both are clear does a blower that still sounds strained point at the motor or the speed control.
Cartridges and the Bay Contacts
The convertible cartridge system lets you swap a grill, a griddle, or coil elements into the same bay, and the electrical connection underneath takes the wear. Always seat a cartridge with the cooktop cold and the power off, and push until it stops rather than until it nearly stops. A cartridge that heats intermittently or not at all usually has a burned or spread receptacle beneath it rather than a dead element. Look into the bay with a flashlight: pitting or discoloration on the contacts tells you the receptacle is the repair.
Oven Faults on the Whirlpool Platform
Jenn-Air wall ovens and ranges sit on the Whirlpool control platform, so faults arrive as an F#-E# pair. F2-E0 is a stuck key, the F3 codes cover the oven temperature sensor circuit, and F5 or F9 codes involve the door latch. Note the whole code before you cut power. An oven that will not heat while the latch buzzes has a latch fault rather than an element fault, and repeated self-clean attempts only make it worse.

Where to Stop
Washing a grease filter, clearing an exterior vent cap, and reseating a cold cartridge with the power off are all safe. Anything inside the cartridge bay is not. Those contacts carry the full element load, and a spread receptacle can arc. If a bay shows scorching, stop using it and book service.
