What Is Usually Behind It
A gas burner lights when a spark jumps to the gas at the burner. When you hear clicking but see no flame, the spark is firing but not lighting, and the reasons are short and specific. The spark igniter itself is the most common: it sits right at the burner, takes every spill and boil-over, and eventually carbon-tracks so it sparks weakly or in the wrong place. A burner cap knocked out of position or set back wrong after cleaning will spark to the wrong spot. A burner port clogged with debris starves the flame. If not one but every burner clicks without lighting, the shared spark module is the more likely fault.
At Castle Rock elevation there is one more factor. Above 6,000 feet the thinner air changes the air-to-gas mixture, so a burner set up for a lower elevation can run rich and yellow or be hard to light. We check the air shutter and orifice setup so the burner lights cleanly and burns a steady blue for our altitude. This is routine on premium ranges and cooktops in the area and is easy to overlook if a technician is not used to working above the plains.

Gas Safety First
If you smell gas, do not keep trying to light the burner. Turn the range off at the gas valve, open windows, and avoid switches or open flames. Once the area is clear, book a visit and a technician will inspect the ignition and gas path safely.
